Fur TradeSeveral trading opportunities were made possible in Canada for the French during the Age of Exploration. The French explorer, Samuel de Champlain, established trading posts in present day Quebec. Trade with Huron for fur in exchange for kettles, knives, and other gifts.

Portuguese India RunIn 1497, Vasco de Gama, a Portuguese explorer, was the first to make a voyage around Africa to India. Trade with India was much sought after by Europeans for their vast amounts of gold and spices. However, the Ottoman Empire lying in between India and Europe, posed a dilemma due to current political tension. Thus inspired Vasco de Gama's journey. This significant route was soon called the Portuguese Run.

Triangular TradeTrade was the systematic trade between North America and Europe. Manufactured goods such as iron products, cloths, and ammunition were sent from Europe to Africa in exchange for gold, slaves, and spices. The Transatlantic Slave trade, a route going to and from Africa, transported slaves. American colonies received crops, while sending tobacco, crops, cotton and cattle to European countries.
