It didn't became independent until August 15, 1947 because the British were adamant on keeping it because it was its best asset.

North AmericaThe first one to discover the New World was Columbus in the year of 1492 in search of another path to India. Contrary to the belief that he set foot in North America, he winded up grazing the ground in various different Caribbean islands. After this breakthrough many more explorers were in search of land and resources. Eventually France and Spain followed in Great Britain's footsteps and instituted colonies there as well.

AfricaWhen it comes to Africa, several countries found its unwieldy amount of salt essential. It had a noticeable lack of development which invited more developed nations to take over. Among them were the British, French, and Portuguese. As discussed in the Trade exhibits- there was lots of significant areas in Africa that were trade-worthy and slaves were part of that cycle. Africa gained its independence in 1960.
